Samsung Galaxy A5 – Basic Settings

These are some of the basic settings for the Samsung Galaxy A5 mobile phone. You will note that there are other settings for the phone which are in more detail. You will note that you can do a number of things with these settings such as setting up your WiFi on the phone or your internet settings.

Basic Settings for the Samsung Galaxy A5

Set date and time

If you want to change the time and date on your mobile phone then this is how you are going to do it. If you are going on holiday and need to change the date and time then the Samsung Galaxy A5 settings below will allow you to do this. The process is very easy.


1.	From the home screen tap Apps.
2.	Tap Settings.
3.	Scroll down and tap Date and time.
4.	Tap Set date.
5.	Using the up and down arrows, set the date you require and then tap the Set button.
6.	Tap Set time.
7.	Using the up and down arrows, set the time you require and then tap the Set button.

Connect to Wi-Fi

The Samsung Galaxy A5 has a WiFi option and you can use this at home when you have turned it on. You can also scan the area to see which WiFi connections are available networks. You can also use this for using internet on your mobile phone when there is a wireless hotspot.

1.	From the home screen tap Apps.
2.	Tap Settings.
3.	Tap Wi-Fi.
4.	Tap the Wi-Fi network you would like to connect to.
5.	Enter the pass code and then tap the Connect button.

Change the notification sound for text messages (SMS)

If you wish to change the sounds on your text messages then the Samsung Galaxy A5 can be changed as follows. You will also note that there are a number of sounds available on the Samsung Galaxy A5 which you can use.

Change the network connection mode

The network connection mode on the Samsung Galaxy A5 offers you 3 different types of connections. These range from 4G, 3G as well as 3G only. Many prefer to use only certain frequencies which are available.


1.	From the home screen tap Apps.
2.	Tap Settings.
3.	Scroll down and tap More networks.
4.	Tap Mobile networks.
5.	Tap Network mode.
6.	Choose the network mode you’d like.

Network modes:

LTE/WCDMA/GSM (auto connect) 4G if available.
WCDMA/GSM (auto connect) 3G if available.
WCDMA Only 3G only.

Check mobile data usage (internet)

If you pay per GB or MB the Samsung Galaxy A5 will allow you to check as well as measure the amount that you have used on your mobile phone. This will show you your data usage on the Samsung Galaxy A5 much like other mobile phones from Samsung.

2.	Tap Settings.
3.	Tap Data Usage.

Enable or disable NFC

There is NFC on the Samsung Galaxy A5 and you may want to turn it on or off when needed. You can also check the user manual of the Samsung Galaxy A5 for assistance when using the NFC.

2.	Tap Settings.
3.	Scroll down and tap NFC and sharing.
4.	Tap NFC.
5.	Tap the switch to turn NFC on or off.

Switch off data when abroad

You dont want to run up data usage when abroad as it becomes expensive. Always turn off your data when roaming and on the Samsung Galaxy A5 you will be able to do this. Again check the user manual of the Samsung Galaxy A5 for more information.


1.	From the home screen tap Apps.
2.	Tap Settings.
3.	Tap Data Usage.
4.	Tap menu.
5.	If the menu item ‘Data roaming’ has a tick next to it, this shows it is turned on. Tap the menu item to turn ‘Data roaming’ off.

Transfer contacts via Bluetooth

You can turn on or turn off the Bluetooth on the Samsung Galaxy A5. Once it has been turned on you can then change or transfer your contacts to another phone with the Bluetooth. Don’t connect the Bluetooth devices which you do not know. When the transfer is done then turn off the Bluetooth again.


1.	From the home screen tap Apps.
2.	Tap Contacts.
3.	Tap the contact you’d like to send.
4.	Tap menu.
5.	Tap Share name card.
6.	Tap Bluetooth.
7.	Tap Scan.
8.	Tap the device you’d like to send it to.

Transfer data to another phone

You can transfer data to another phone from the Samsung Galaxy A5 mobile phone. You will note above that you can also transfer data via your Bluetooth. Most prefer to do it via the SDcard. See the instructions below for more information.


1.	From the home screen tap Apps.
2.	Tap Gallery.
3.	Tap the media you would like to share.
4.	Tap the share button at the top of the screen.
5.	Tap Bluetooth.
6.	Tap the device you would like to send the media to.

Check your IMEI while on a call

Check the Samsung Galaxy A5 as follow to check the IMEI on your mobile phone.


1.	When you are on a Phone Call tap Add call.
2.	Tap ‘*#06#’.

Copy contacts from device or SIM

You can copy your contacts onto your SIM or you can do it via the Bluetooth option as listed above. The Samsung Galaxy A5 offers all these options for you. Note on how you will be doing this in both directions. Data to SIM and the SIM to the data on your mobile phone.


	To copy contacts from the SIM to the device:
1.	From the home screen tap Apps.
2.	Tap Contacts.
3.	Tap menu.
4.	Tap Settings.
5.	Tap Contacts.
6.	Tap Import/export contacts.
7.	Tap Import from SIM.
8.	Tap Device.
9.	Tap each contact you would like to copy.
10.	When you are happy, tap the Done button.
	Steps complete.
	To copy contacts from the device to the SIM:
1.	From the home screen tap Apps.
2.	Tap Contacts.
3.	Tap menu.
4.	Tap Settings.
5.	Tap Contacts.
6.	Tap Import/export contacts.
7.	Tap Export to SIM.
8.	Tap each contact you would like to copy.
9.	When you are happy, tap the Done button.

Enable or disable call waiting

The Samsung Galaxy A5 allows you to enable as well as disable the call waiting on your mobile phone.


1.	From the home screen tap Apps.
2.	Tap Phone.
3.	Tap menu.
4.	Tap Settings.
5.	Tap Call.
6.	Tap More settings.
7.	Tap ‘Call waiting’ to turn it on or off.

Format your memory card

You can format your memory card. This is not the same as having your phone being reset. The hard reset of the Samsung Galaxy A5 is found elsewhere on this website. This one will only format the data on your memory card.


1.	From the home screen tap Apps.
2.	Tap Settings.
3.	Scroll down and tap Storage.
4.	Scroll down and tap Format SD card.
5.	Tap Format SD Card again.
6.	Tap Erase everything.

Activate vibrating alert

You can activate you vibration mode on the Samsung Galaxy A5. Some prefer this if you wish to not have a ring tone during meetings.


1.	From the home screen tap Apps.
2.	Tap Settings.
3.	Tap Sound.
4.	Tap ‘Vibrate when ringing’ to enable or disable vibrating alerts.
